On 4/28/03 at approximately 0245 hours, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to a lumberyard fire in the Woods Run section of the city. On arrival of Truck Co. 34 responding from just 3 blocks away, the fire was so immense that several structures were in flames from the radiant heat as well as numerous brush fires. The 5 alarm fire destroyed the block long lumberyard, 3 houses on Richardson Street above the main body of fire, a 6 unit rowhouse across from the lumberyard, and damaged vehicles parked near the blaze. The fire and smoke could be seen for miles.
